Barchester Health Care

Barchester Healthcare is now one of the biggest independent care providers in the UK. Barchester was originally created to provide high-quality nursing care and hospitality to older people but their expertise and ability to offer support has expended significantly since then.

The client wanted  to provide a safe, pleasant and functional landscape to be used by residents, staff and visitors to the care home while providing ecological enhancement and local visual amenity particularly for views from the east.

The scheme we have designed provides a safe, attractive landscape that caters for the functional requirements of each area. The hard and soft landscaping is used to delineate but link the areas. Vehicular and pedestrian access is by a dedicated entrance from top dartford road leading to parking. Pedestrian access is delineated by contasting paving. The frontage hedge and trees are retained and managed including the provision of a number of new trees in readiness to replace the retained aspens that have limited remaining useful life.

The residents are provided with amenity space consisting of open areas of lawn with tree planting to the rear of the building with highly omamental, floriferous and scented hedges used adjacent to patios. Planting throughout is designed to offer high potential for wildlife. This includes a mosaic of hedges, shrubs and trees to provide cover and habitat through and around the site particularly for birds and invertebrates.
